Each year since 1938, the Caldecott medal is awarded to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children. The 2019 Caldecott Medal winner will be announced on Monday, January 28th. The winning book will be selected by a committee of fifteen members of the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
The Grand Forks Public Library will host a Mock Caldecott program on Sunday, January 27. Presenters will discuss how picture books work, the selection process and criteria for the Caldecott Award, and how the illustrations are distinguished in three picture books that we consider top contenders for the 2019 Caldecott Award. There will also be Mock Caldecott group discussions of our three major contenders. At the end of the discussions, ballots will be cast to determine our medal winner.
