Early Literacy & Children's Rules

The Early Literacy and Children’s Summer Reading Program is open to children age 12 and under. Children who register for the summer reading program can pick up a goodie bag at the library, which includes a time log, activity sheet, and prize sheet.

Children can keep track of their reading online, or by putting stickers on the time log for every 20 minutes read. After completing eight hours of reading, children can stop by the Children’s Department to receive a completion certificate and incentive prize.

Children can keep track of activities by coloring in each completed activity on their sheet, or by marking them as complete online. After completing eight activities, children can stop by the Children’s Department to receive an incentive prize.

There are 11 reading badges and 11 activity badges. Each badge earns children an extra ticket into the final prize drawing, which will take place in early August prior to the Grand Finale on August 5.

Children can select which prizes they want their tickets to go toward. This can be done online, or by marking the prize sheet and turning it in to the Children’s Department by July 31.
