Thinking Money for Kids Opening Program

Thursday, June 2, 2022

Dr. Prodosh E. Simlai is a Professor and Chair at the Department of Economics & Finance, Nistler College of Business and Public Administration, University of North Dakota. Dr. Simlai received his M.S in Finance and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. His research interests include financial markets, investment analysis, and real estate. Dr. Simlai will talk about important aspects of financial literacy that can help an individual to manage financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial well-being. Simple knowledge and skills to make good decisions related to budgeting, borrowing, and personal financial management will be discussed. Grand Forks Homes, Red River Valley Community Action, Global Friends, and NDSU Extension Service will have information tables at the event.

Thinking Money for Kids is a multimedia experience for children ages 7 to 11, as well as their parents, caregivers, and educators. The interactive exhibit uses games, activities and a fun storyline to help children understand what money is, its function in society, money choices, and money values, such as fairness, responsibility, and charitableness. The exhibit will be on display at Grand Forks Public, along with a series of related special events, through June 30. Thinking Money for Kids was developed by the American Library Association Public Programs Office in collaboration with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, whose support made this exhibition possible.
