Life After Life Book Club

Biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs provide a window into another person’s life and soul. They also evoke a different time and place. If you enjoy taking a peek into someone else’s life, join the Life After Life Book Club to share and discuss life stories. Curious Minds on the GO | Giving Hearts Day

The Grand Forks Public Library Foundation is participating in Giving Hearts Day! Schedule your gift today or donate on Giving Hearts Day on Thursday, February 9. You can donate online or stop by the library for free coffee and hot cocoa starting at 9 a.m. (while supplies last). Your donation to the Grand Forks Public Library Foundation will support the purchase of an outreach van to bring the library to curious minds across Grand Forks County!

Join the Winter Reading Program for reading fun and activities all winter long! On Saturdays throughout January and February, we will host crafts for kids, teens, and adults. Join the fun - no registration is required.

Chess Club

Does your child want to learn how to play chess? Do they already know how to play but want to improve their game? Play and learn with other kids and build friendships in the process. Open to all ages. This program is made possible by UND Chess Club.

READ Dogs

Enjoy a book with the R.E.A.D. dogs. The program provides opportunities for young readers to experience the support and encouragement of a R.E.A.D. dog. The R.E.A.D. program is for children up to grade five who are struggling or reluctant readers. Reading to a dog allows for a relaxed, non-threatening environment and is shown to boost confidence and self-esteem. Each child reads to the dog for fifteen minutes. Space is limited, so please contact the Children’s Department to sign up for a time slot: 701-772-8116.

The UND Writers Conference Community Discussion Series is an informal opportunity, led by volunteers from UND, to get you acquainted with some of the authors who will be participating in the 54th Annual UND Writers Conference, “The Healing Arts” (March 23–25, 2023). Each discussion will focus on a single author and one select text, which you’re welcome to read beforehand . . . or not, as your time permits! No registration necessary.

Community Options: Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Community Options staff will be at the Grand Forks Public Library on the second Monday of each month between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. While at the Library we can provide information on energy assistance to eligible low-income households. Please stop by to visit.

ND Job Service staff will be at the Grand Forks Public Library the second Monday of each month between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. While at the library, we can assist you with your job search, veteran services, migrant and seasonal farm worker services, information on training programs, resume-building assistance, and limited unemployment insurance assistance. The Classic Re-Reads Book Club offers participants a chance to re-read those classics that they read (or skipped reading) in high school and college. This time with no grades attached!
